Just an update on my novel…

I know I have not really talked about the novel I am writing yet on here but I will get to that. First I just wanted to give an update. At this point it is 174,660 words and growing. Per the suggestion of my friend.  I have made some changes to it and recently cut it down by 6,000 words while editing and changing the last few chapters I recently wrote. Overall I think the suggestions he made where really brilliant and helped me a ton. Sometimes it is great to get an outside perspective on these things.

Anyways I will work on getting my synopsis and also the background of my book on here soon!

A good night

Tonight I finished the first book of the series The Wheel of Time. This is the first book I have read since December of last year which is a long… long… long time for me not to read a book. Part of the reason I have not read in so long though was because I had a very stressful but good 2010. I can promise you this, it is not going to be a year I forget. Wayyy too much went down in 2010 for that to happen.

Anyways I had a bit of a conversation with my girlfriend about reading and other things tonight. Just talked about how good that feeling is when finishing a book but I guess I am quite the freak when it comes to reading. It is not uncommon for me when I really get into books for me to finish a 900 page book in a day and a half. It’s not that I am just a quick reader, I also pretty much memorize the entire book without trying. I can walk over to my bookcase; that has hundreds of books, and just by the cover tell you everything that happens in that book. At times I really wish I could use that skill in other things like listening to a teacher but for now I am content that the skill just applies to reading

Dreams

Dreams come in all shapes and sizes. Some are scary, some are funny, and some don’t make any sense at all. Some look at their dreams as if they are nothing more than a fantasy, an aberration of their imagination; others try to pursue those dreams, to make them a reality. I would consider myself of the second class. I do not just believe dreams are useless images created by our brain when we are asleep. I believe dreams are an expert tool of success. They allow us to experience things long before we ever come across them in reality, they allow us insight into situations before they happen and they allow us to explore possibilities that we would never think of in a waking state. I strive for my dreams because the ideas brought up and created in them are more than just fantasy; they are reality yet to be. Consider every dream of flying, every dream of soaring through the stars, consider the dreams of equality. All great idea’s, all great inventions, all great accomplishments, at one time where just simple dreams, nothing more than a person’s fantasy. Considered to be crazy most just ignored them as dreams, but others knew those dreams could be real and worked to accomplish them. It is the person who can say they have never had a wasted thought that considers dreams just another insight to what could be. Pessimists and other “realists” say it is ignorant to chase such dreams but then again, they never risk anything. Why let someone’s fear stop you from pursuing a dream just because they are not capable of doing so? None could say less of you if you try and never give up just because others said you should. Regret is much harder to live with than not finding success with every idea. Perseverance and passion are the trademarks of those who do great things. Those who don’t always succeed but find reason in every failure find much more success than those who refuse to try in fear of what may happen if they don’t succeed.

What is the definition of crazy?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary it is something that is full of cracks or flaws. Following this official definition would it not mean then that we are all crazy? What person is not flawed in some way, either mentally or physically? The answer would be none, so what is the point of this word if in some way we are all crazy? It is probably the same reason a lot of words exist. It has to do with out own insecurities. For some reason people feel the need too see others suffer and do worse than them to feel better about themselves. If anything is crazy, that is what is crazy. That as a species that has evolved far enough to leave our own planet, we do not have the mental powers to get over jealousy. I actually find it rather funny and by studying this reaction you can then begin to understand why people go to war in the name of “god”. What a stupid reason to fight. If you are going to fight, fight over something practical like wealth, power, land, a beautiful woman. Then at least your a smart tyrant instead of stupid one. Anyways, it is the same insanity. This person does not believe in my god so I am going to kill them to make them see the light and error of their ways. Sure makes sense to me. I really wish religion would cease to exist. You can believe in god and all that stuff, but the existence of religion is a travesty against anything it is supposedly trying to teach. What are some of the most extravagant, most expensive and elaborate buildings in the world created for? Religion, not god. God; if there is a god, could care less about a big as building with weird rules that don’t make sense. God would more so care about how we act as human beings, not as mindless followers of cults. That is what all religion is, cults. People gathering to form a dedicated and ignorant mass of soldiers. You do not have to go to a church every Sunday, pay money to the church, drink a sip of Jesus blood “wine or water”, and sit on your knees in silence to do right by god. So instead of wasting your time following some senseless religious practice that was created by MEN, not god how about you go out and do something to help mankind. You might go to church on Sunday but that bum you pass everyday could actually use help. A good person would help the bum and not need church to tell him to do so. A good man would go out of their way to assist someone else and not need a church to tell them to do so. Are we really not evolved enough to think beyond that? Do you really need a religion to dictate your entire life and decide what is right and wrong for you? Can you not decide that on your own? I am not part of any religion but I am not a bad person because of it. I give money to people who I see are in need. I donate my older clothing that I can no longer fit in to homeless shelters and such. I have helped with charity’s like make a wish foundation. I have also dedicated time to retirement homes and I help people on a regular basis. I did not need religion to tell me to do this stuff. I did not need religion to tell me what was right and wrong. I do not need religion to tell me that drinking and driving are bad. I do not need religion to tell me that killing another person is wrong. Now what religious nut jobs forget to mention or see are all the people that kill in the name of god. More people on the face of earth have died in the name of god than any other contributing factor. It is not god’s fault though, it is religions fault. The people who follow the words of man as the word of god are the people to blame. The people who in their lives have never had an independent thought and only know what their religious book says. Well guess what, that book was written by man, not by god. It is flawed; ie crazy, just like the rest of mankind. So do not tell me that I am a bad person because I do not believe in religion. Do not pass judgement on me because I do not follow a book that was written by man and is flawed. Do not pass judgement on me because I live my life to the fullest while at the same time being a good person. It is not an all or none situation. You can do right by god and mankind while not believing in religion. If you just believe in the good in humanity. If you believe that with a little hard work, we can all become better and walk towards a much brighter future. Religion is a blight upon the otherwise briliant imagination of humanity. It was not created by such figures as Jesus to be a mind control device. They wanted us to think for ourselves and for each other, to help each other. Yet all religion has done is create hate and animosity. The teachings of great men was lost in the blind ambition of flawed men and it has been exploited to control those who cannot think for themselves.

"When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don’t give up though the pace seems slow—You may succeed with another blow, Success is failure turned inside out—The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit—It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit."

"In life there are only two things that motivate people. Love and fear. Fear of what will happen if you don’t do something; is what drives most people to go to work, to get an education, to get married, etc… But love is what drives people to do great things. People who love what they do and do it because they love to do it are the people who change the world. So how will you live you life? In fear or in love?"

~ In Hoc

"Reality is merely what we define it as. Anything we dream of can be done; it is just a matter of when it will be done. Our only limitations are the ones we set upon ourselves. We posses the unparalleled power of imagination and thought and there is no limit to that power"

~ Cameron Cottle
